Thursday, February 13th, 5:30 - 7 pm in Sulzberger Parlor, 3rd Floor Barnard Hall
Dr. Elizabeth Stordeur Pryor, Associate Professor of History at Smith College, will lecture on navigating uncomfortable conversations in the classroom and the role language and history plays in instigating that discomfort. This conversation builds from her work regarding the use of the n-word in academic spaces. Dr. Pryor is currently working on a pedagogical and historical memoir on the n-word framed by her experience as a biracial woman in the United States who is also the daughter of comedic icon Richard Pryor.
This event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be provided. For more information or if you have any questions please contact Barnard's Writing and Speaking Program, at writing@barnard.edu or speaking@barnard.edu.
